About Avera Health
Avera Health is a Catholic health care ministry headquartered in Sioux Falls, SD. It carries on the charism and legacy of the Avera Health (Benedictine & Presentation Sisters), continuing a long history of religious women and men who founded hospitals to care for the sick, the poor, and the dying. A regional Catholic health system co-sponsored by the Benedictine and Presentation Sisters, serving the upper Midwest and rural communities.
The Catholic health care mission
Like all Catholic health systems, Avera Health understands medicine as an extension of the healing ministry of Jesus. Care is guided by the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services, by a deep respect for the dignity of every human life from conception to natural death, and by a commitment to serve everyone — especially those who are poor, vulnerable, or underserved.
Caring for the whole person
